Is it easy to access Elephant Rock for surfing?

Getting to Elephant Rock takes a fair amount of physical effort, because you can’t drive straight down to the beach. You’ll need to take a vehicle to a drop-off point, then walk for about 15 to 20 minutes, weaving through coastal scrub and past a small lagoon.

That little walk helps keep the area’s secluded vibe, but it also requires solid footwear and the habit of carrying your surfboard while the tropical sun is blazing. Also, when you’re going around the lagoon mouth, you must be extra careful, since there may be saltwater crocodiles in the murky water. The waves themselves are a scenic right-hand point break, good for newcomers and intermediate surfers, so the whole journey ends up feeling very worthwhile.
