How many World Heritage Sites are there in Sri Lanka?

Ravana Tour Specialist June 1, 2026

In Sri Lanka, there are eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Six of them are stunning cultural sites, including the ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, the sacred cities of Anuradhapura and Kandy, the Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications, and the Golden Temple of Dambulla. The other two are natural heritage wonders, recognised because of extraordinary biological variety: the Sinharaja Forest Reserve and the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. Usually, most travellers can see most of these historical landmarks within a typical 10 to 14-day Cultural Triangle plan, and it feels very manageable.
