How many days does the Cultural Triangle take?

Trying to explore the main archaeological locations inside Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle really needs at least three or four full days if you want to do it properly. Otherwise, you’ll end up with severe fatigue and a lot of rushing, which is not great.

With this amount of time, you can do those practical half-day stops at the key UNESCO World Heritage Sites, like Sigiriya Lion Rock, the ancient ruins at Polonnaruwa, Dambulla Cave Temple, and the wide monastic areas around Anuradhapura. If you squeeze the whole thing into fewer days, you usually end up running through the larger parts of each site during peak afternoon heat, plus you feel temple fatigue more intensely than expected.
