How can travellers help reduce mosquito breeding at their accommodation?

Ravana Tour Specialist July 23, 2026

Travellers can cut down on breeding risks if they empty any stagnant water from flower vases, bathroom buckets, and even balcony saucers. Also, make sure toilet lids stay closed, because that helps too, and yes, it’s easy to forget.

Aedes mosquitoes need only a very small volume of still water (as little as a bottle cap amount) to lay their eggs. If you are in a long-term rental or villa, inspect the place regularly for water-collecting debris, leaves, little puddles and similar stuff. When hotel management takes care of the big vector control work, guests still need to actively manage the immediate indoor spaces, to wipe out those small breeding pockets in the room and around it.
