Can a private driver also be a tour guide?
Many private drivers can share local knowledge, but they are not really official tour guides, unless they have a particular licence issued by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.
A “Chauffeur Guide” is not just a general label; it is a designated role for drivers who have finished proper formal training and are authorised to guide visitors inside the major historical places. Regular drivers are not allowed to guide inside paid attractions such as Sigiriya or Anuradhapura, even if they can still offer useful context and practical details while travelling along the road.
