Is it better to surf early in the morning or in the evening?

It is usually better to surf early in the morning in Arugam Bay. When the day is still waking up, dawn sessions give you that glassy ocean, with minimal wind, less intense UV, and you don’t have as many people in the lineup.

In Arugam Bay, the cross-shore or onshore winds generally start to strengthen by late morning, so the wave faces turn choppy, messy, disorganised, and harder to ride. Late afternoon and the so-called sunset sessions are also popular, and sometimes the wind drops again, but that morning window from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM stays the best bet for smoother waves across every surf break in the area.
