When are the public feeding times at Udawalawe Transit Home?
The Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe runs public milk feeding sessions four times every day at 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 6:00 PM. People come to see how orphaned calves rush in for their meals; it feels very lively.
Unlike typical foster care places, this home keeps human involvement low, so the calves can be rehabilitated and then released back into the wild. Guests watch from a raised platform set behind a barrier; this way, the elephants stay semi-wild, and visitors still see the chaotic, joyful feeding frenzy.
