What time does Kandy Temple of the Tooth open?

Ravana Tour Specialist August 18, 2026

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy opens every day at 5:30 AM, and it closes at 8:00 PM, but the inner sanctum where the relic is kept is not available all the time. It opens only when certain rituals are happening.

If you want to see the golden casket with the tooth, you need to arrive when the daily offerings called Thevava take place, because that is when access is allowed:

  • Morning Thevava: 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM
  • Midday Thevava: 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Evening Thevava: 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Also, make sure your clothes cover your shoulders and knees; this is required to pass the strict entrance security.
