What is the standard restaurant tip in Sri Lanka?

Ravana Tour Specialist August 15, 2026

In Sri Lankan restaurants, the usual tipping manner tends to be to leave about 10% of the entire bill in cash, right on the table, provided the service was good enough. Still, you really should look at the receipt first, because mid-level and higher-end places quietly tack on a mandatory 10% “Service Charge” to the final amount.

So if that 10% service charge is already there, you do not need to add extra gratuity. Yet leaving a bit of spare change, around 100 to 500 LKR, is a courteous little signal, and many waiters will notice. At local roadside spots, bakeries, or small street food stalls, tipping is not expected at all, but people often round up the bill.
