What is the best motorcycle route through Sri Lanka’s tea plantations?
A top motorcycle ride in Sri Lanka goes through the tea areas, starting in Kandy and passing Ramboda, Nuwara Eliya, then on to Haputale and Ella. The road is full of bends and climbs. Along the way, you get tea fields, waterfalls, and wide views from the hills.
From Kandy to Ramboda, the landscape gradually turns more hilly. You can pull over at small falls and roadside tea country stops. As you head on, the route moves toward Nuwara Eliya, where you will see long rows of tea and working tea factories. Some places allow visits if you plan ahead.
After Nuwara Eliya, you can ride south to Haputale and then to Ella. Pick the connecting roads that fit the day’s conditions. You may also try extra stops near Lipton’s Seat, if the roads are open.
Since the trip includes many tight turns, steep stretches, and fog at times, it helps to break the ride into shorter stages.
