What Birds Can You See in Yala National Park?
Yala has 215 recorded bird species. Six of them are Sri Lankan endemics. On a visit, you might spot peafowl and junglefowl. You may also see pelicans, storks, and eagles. Other sightings can include kingfishers, bee-eaters, and herons. There are also many wetland birds. Migratory birds show up at different times, too.
Which species you notice depends on where you are and the time of year. The forests, scrub areas, lagoons, grasslands, and wetlands all matter. Each habitat offers its own spots for feeding and nesting. Sri Lanka Tourism calls Yala an Important Bird Area. It also reports the same total of 215 species. Even on a safari aimed at leopards, binoculars can help a lot.
