Roughly how many leopards currently live in Yala?

Yala National Park is home to an estimated 100 to 120 Sri Lankan leopards, so it ranks among the highest leopard densities anywhere, like really high. Block 1, the area most people go to, hosts about 60 to 70 of these apex hunters.

Since the park sprawls across roughly 978 square kilometres, spread through several blocks, the land feels huge, yet the concentration in Block 1 keeps the odds in favour of visitors. In this place, the leopards sit at the top of the food chain and have no natural rivals, so they are relatively comfortable around safari jeeps, and often they will calmly move along the dirt tracks in full daylight.
