Is the south coast of Sri Lanka LGBTQ+ friendly?

All along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, from Galle all the way to Tangalle, there’s this reputation for being the most liberal, tourist-friendly and LGBTQ+ accommodating part of the country. You can feel it too, because the steady presence of international digital nomads has, honestly, pushed local mindsets forward and made them more contemporary.

In this area, you’ll find a lot of smaller boutique hotels, surf camps and yoga retreats, all running on fairly global standards of inclusion. LGBTQ+ travellers often say the South Coast was the place where they felt the most at ease and also where they felt like they could blend in with the local travel rhythm, without friction.
