Is Sri Lanka safe for gay travellers?

Gay travellers generally encounter very low risks in Sri Lanka, so it is often seen as a safe place for both solo men and couples. If local customs about public modesty are kept in mind, visitors are not likely to run into any targeted hostility or animosity.

Tourism there is built around delivering excellent guest experiences. Even though more conservative sentiments exist privately, especially with some older people, they usually do not turn into aggression against tourists. Gay men can enjoy the beaches, cultural locations, and nightlife without much worry; just remember that open public displays of affection are frowned upon everywhere.
