Is a security deposit required when renting a motorcycle?

Lots of motorcycle rental providers in Sri Lanka ask for a deposit that gets refunded, but not every company does. The deposit value can change. It depends on the bike model, how long you rent, what insurance is set up, and the rules each company follows.

In most cases, the deposit is used if the motorcycle has damage, if parts or accessories are missing, or if there are unpaid fees that the rental contract lists. Some places want a cash deposit. Others use a card hold or another method they choose.

Before you pay, check the exact deposit amount, when the refund will happen, what payment method is accepted, and how soon the money should return after the trip.

Take time to look over the motorcycle in person and take photos of any marks or damage before you ride away. This can reduce problems later. If your rental is for multiple days, a written rental agreement and a deposit receipt matter a lot.
