How do Sri Lanka’s prices compare to Thailand’s?

For budget backpackers and mid-range travellers, Sri Lanka is usually just as cheap, if not slightly cheaper, than Thailand. Things like local meals, basic guesthouses, and getting around on public transport generally cost less here.

That said, while you’ll save on daily food, Sri Lanka’s entrance fees for big tourist spots, ancient temples, and national parks are noticeably steeper than Thailand’s. Also, Thailand has been in the tourism game longer, so they offer a lot more options when it comes to competitively priced luxury resorts. Basically, budget backpackers will probably spend less in Sri Lanka, but if you’re looking for high-end luxury, Thailand will usually give you better overall value.
