Do local tour operators accept foreign currencies like Euros, Pounds, or Dollars?

Ravana Tour Specialist August 25, 2026

Local tour operators generally accept major foreign currencies like US Dollars, Euros, and British Pounds for tour payments and deposits, so it is pretty normal. Many agencies also quote prices in USD as the default industry method to reduce the impact of Sri Lankan Rupee volatility, because the rates can swing.

Paying any remaining amount in foreign cash after you arrive is often received well by the agencies, though you will usually get change in the local currency. It is strongly recommended that the notes you bring are crisp and freshly issued, and they should not have tears or rough edges. Sri Lankan banks, in particular, tend to refuse damaged foreign bills, even if it is just a small issue.
