Can I see large flocks of flamingos in Sri Lanka?

Yes, you can spot huge moving flocks of Greater Flamingos in Sri Lanka, most of the time, mainly in the northern part around Mannar and also in the southern wetlands of Bundala National Park. The best moment to actually see these massive groups is during the winter migratory season, between November and April.

Those shallow, brackish lagoons and salt pans sort of become the ideal foraging areas for the flamingos; they come in from distant places too, even as far as the Rann of Kutch in India. Now, Bundala is more straightforward for regular tourist routes in the south, but the causeways around Mannar Island tend to host the greatest, and honestly the most stunning, clusters of these birds.
