Can I see elephants at Udawalawe National Park?
Yes, Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in the world if you want a guaranteed wild elephant sighting. The park has a resident population of more than 400 Sri Lankan elephants, and it is a remarkable sight.
Since the landscape is mostly open scrubland and grassland, you get excellent visibility all year round. It’s also pretty normal to spot big herds, including mothers with their calves, hanging around near the park’s reservoir to drink and bathe. For the best viewing chances, early morning or late afternoon jeep safaris are strongly advised.
