Can I change my Sri Lanka tourist visa after arrival?

Changing a tourist visa to a resident, work, or student visa while you are inside Sri Lanka is not allowed under Sri Lankan immigration rules.

If you work while visiting or plan to join a longer study programme, you must exit Sri Lanka first. Then you must return to your home country, or another approved third country, and apply for the right visa at a Sri Lankan embassy or consulate before you come back.
