Best Sri Lankan national park for large wild elephant herds?

Minneriya National Park and Kaudulla National Park are among the best places in Sri Lanka if you want to see massive, very concentrated groups of wild elephants.

Since these two parks have a shared elephant corridor, the herds move back and forth between them depending on water levels. In the dry season, from July to October, Minneriya gets the spotlight with “The Gathering,” where hundreds of elephants graze in the same area, making it a spectacular sight. If, later in the year, Minneriya’s water levels rise too high, the herds move onward to Kaudulla. For the most accurate information, always ask the local jeep drivers which park has the highest density of elephants on the day you go.
