Yes, leeches are highly prevalent in the Sinharaja Rainforest, especially during and right after the rainy seasons (May to July and October to December).

While leeches are harmless and non-venomous, their bites can still become a real nuisance. Visitors are strongly advised to put on long trousers, thick socks, and proper “leech socks”. Using insect repellent, salt, or traditional Ayurvedic balms such as Siddhalepa on your footwear will also deter them effectively throughout your trek.
