Are there giant wasps at Sigiriya?

Yes, there are these big colonies of giant rock bees (which people around here sometimes call wasps) nesting on the cliffs of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

In general, they behave pretty calmly unless someone does something provocative like making loud noises, flying drones, or using quick, aggressive movements. You can see warning signs posted around the whole site, and mesh “wasp shelters” are also there for you along the climb. If you encounter a swarm, you are advised to stay quiet, crouch down, and not start swatting at them.
