About This Tour

Take in the best of Sri Lanka on this well-paced 10-day private trip. You start at Sigiriya and its ancient sights. Then you move on to Kandy and its local culture. After that, head to the tea country around Nuwara Eliya and enjoy the green hill views. Next, you can ride the scenic train toward Ella if you wish. Spend time at the mountain lookouts along the way. You may also spot wild elephants during an optional safari in Udawalawe. To end, relax on the beach in Weligama. Then visit historic Galle Fort. Finish with one last night in Colombo. This is a great way to see the island with your own driver.

Day 01Airport → Sigiriya | Arrival & Cultural Triangle Welcome⌄

When you land at Bandaranaike International Airport, your private tourist driver will meet you and take you to Sigiriya in a private vehicle. After you arrive, check into your accommodation, then use the rest of the day to rest after your trip. If you get there before late afternoon, take a brief stroll in the nearby village, or just relax at the hotel.

Day 02Sigiriya Rock Fortress & Habarana | Ancient Wonders and Village Experiences⌄

Get up early and go to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Try to finish the climb before the afternoon sun gets strong. After that, head back to your hotel for breakfast or lunch. Take a little time to rest.

Later in the day, you can join an optional trip to a traditional village in the Habarana area. You can see local activities and share a Sri Lankan meal at an additional cost.

If you prefer wildlife, go for a jeep safari at Minneriya, Kaudulla, or another nearby spot. Pick the place based on where the elephants are that season.

End the day by returning to Sigiriya for dinner. Then just relax for the evening.

Day 03Sigiriya → Dambulla → Matale → Kandy | Temples & Cultural Heritage⌄

Post-breakfast, check out and head to Kandy. First, go to the Dambulla Cave Temple. Spend time looking around the temple grounds, then keep going past Matale. Take a lunch break on the route. If you want, stop at a spice garden too. After that, reach Kandy and check in at your hotel. Later in the day, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. You can also stroll by Kandy Lake. If you still have time, consider an optional traditional cultural show, then go back to your place to stay.

Day 04Kandy → Peradeniya → Ramboda → Nuwara Eliya | Botanical Gardens & Tea Country⌄

Have breakfast in Kandy, then head to Nuwara Eliya. First, stop at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya. Take your time and stroll around the paths there. Next, go toward Ramboda. While you travel, pause at viewpoints and stop at Ramboda Falls along the way.

After that, visit a tea factory. You will see how Ceylon tea is made. There is also an optional tea-tasting session if you want it. Reach Nuwara Eliya later in the afternoon.

Check in at your hotel. If you still have energy, go to Gregory Lake for a quick stop. If not, just walk around the town.

Day 05Nuwara Eliya → Nanu Oya → Ella | Optional Scenic Highland Train Journey⌄

Have breakfast, then check out. Next, go to Nanu Oya Railway Station for an optional train ride to Ella. This depends on train schedules and whether tickets are available. Your own driver can move your bags by car and meet you at the station you agree on.

If you skip the train or it is not running, take a private vehicle instead. You can stop along the way for views and photos. When you reach Ella, go to your place to stay and check in.

For the rest of the afternoon, relax or wander around to try local restaurants and cafés.

Day 06Ella → Nine Arch Bridge → Little Adam’s Peak | Highland Sightseeing⌄

After breakfast, go to Nine Arch Bridge. Take photos there, then stroll around the nearby lanes.

Next, head to Little Adam’s Peak. Expect an easy hike and solid views over the hills.

Come back to Ella for lunch. After that, you get free time in the afternoon.

If you want, you can visit local cafés. You can also book an optional activity. Or you can just rest at your hotel with nothing planned.

Spend your second evening in Ella at your own pace.

Day 07Ella → Ravana Falls → Buduruwagala → Udawalawe | Waterfalls & Elephant Conservation⌄

Have breakfast, then leave Ella and start heading to Udawalawe. First, stop at Ravana Falls. After that, continue on to Wellawaya.

When you are on the road, stop at Buduruwagala. There you can look at the old rock carvings. Then have lunch. After lunch, continue towards Udawalawe.

If your arrival lines up with a feeding time, you can visit the Elephant Transit Home. You will be able to see how their elephant rehabilitation programme works.

Next, check in at your place to stay near Udawalawe National Park. Afterward, spend the evening relaxing.

Day 08Udawalawe → Weligama | Optional Morning Wildlife Safari & Beach Relaxation⌄

Start with an early, optional jeep ride inside Udawalawe National Park. You might see wild elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and several kinds of birds.

If you take the jeep trip, go back to your hotel afterwards. Have breakfast, freshen up, and check out.

Next, head to Weligama. Stop for lunch somewhere along the road.

Reach your beach place in the afternoon. Then take a bit of free time to rest.

Spend the evening by the sea. Visit small cafés on the beach, or simply take a calm walk around Weligama Bay.

Day 09Weligama → Galle Fort → Colombo | Coastal Heritage & Capital City⌄

Have breakfast in Weligama before you head to Galle. In the morning, walk around Galle Fort. Follow the old ramparts and wander through the little lanes. Stop in the shops and cafés along the way.

After lunch, travel north toward Colombo. Take the Southern Expressway for the drive. When you arrive, check into your hotel.

If you have time, do a brief tour around Colombo. Visit Independence Square or Galle Face Green, or look through some nearby shopping areas.

For your last evening, eat at one of Colombo’s restaurants. Or relax back at your place.

Day 10Colombo → Bandaranaike International Airport | Departure⌄

Have breakfast at the hotel, then get ready to leave. Check your flight time first. If your flight is later in the day, you might fit in a quick shop or take a short stroll around Colombo before you check out. After that, your private driver will take you to Bandaranaike International Airport. The plan includes enough time for international check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should we choose the Habarana village visit or a safari on Day 02?

Both are optional afternoon experiences. Choosing one leaves more time after the Sigiriya climb. Let us know which experience interests you, and we can help arrange it at an additional cost.

Where will our private driver meet us after the Day 05 train journey?

If you take the optional train from Nanu Oya towards Ella, your private driver can travel by road with your luggage and meet you at the station agreed with you in advance.

Can we visit Elephant Transit Home and do an Udawalawe safari on separate days?

Yes. The itinerary places the optional Elephant Transit Home visit on Day 07 if a feeding session fits your arrival, and the optional morning national park safari on Day 08. These are separate activities with additional charges.

When do we have free time at Weligama Bay?

The itinerary allows beach leisure after arriving from Udawalawe on Day 08. On Day 09, you leave after breakfast for Galle Fort and Colombo, so the main free beach time is on Day 08.

What if our arrival flight is too late for the drive to Sigiriya?

An alternative first overnight stay closer to Bandaranaike International Airport may be needed. Contact us with your flight schedule so we can adjust the first part of the journey and confirm any transport changes.
