About This Tour

Take a break from the busy pace and enjoy a 10-day private beach trip along Sri Lanka’s southwest and southern coast. Start in Kalutara with calm seaside hours. Then head to Unawatuna to spend time on the shoreline, and later enjoy Mirissa with its sea views and water fun. After that, relax in the slower bay of Hiriketiya, known for surfing, small beach cafés, and warm tropical days. You will have private transfers and your own driver, with suggested overnight stops along the way. That way, you can move around Sri Lanka’s coast at your own speed and enjoy the coastal life as you like.

Day 01Airport → Kalutara | Your Beach Holiday Begins⌄

When you land at Bandaranaike International Airport, a private driver will meet you. Then you will head to Kalutara on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast.

Check in at your beach stay. After that, take it easy for the rest of the day since you just flew in.

If you arrive early enough, you can stroll along the beach. Or you can just lounge by the pool. For the evening, have dinner while looking out over the ocean.

Day 02Kalutara Beach | A Full Day of Coastal Relaxation⌄

Have breakfast at the hotel. After that, you can stay close to the beach for the morning, or just unwind by the pool.

If you want to see a bit more, plan a short stop at Kalutara Bodhiya. You can also wander around the nearby town.

Head back to your place for lunch. Then you get the rest of the day free to do as you like.

Finish with an evening stroll at sunset, or choose a calm dinner by the sea.

Day 03Kalutara → Galle Fort → Unawatuna | Southern Coastal Discovery⌄

After you finish breakfast, check out of your place. Then go south toward Galle. Take time at Galle Fort and wander through the old lanes. Look around the small shops and walk the coastal ramparts.

Have lunch at a local café. After that, continue on to Unawatuna. Check in at your accommodation. Spend the latter part of the day on the beach, or head out to nearby places to eat.

Day 04Unawatuna → Jungle Beach | Swimming & Seaside Leisure⌄

Have breakfast first, then head to Unawatuna Beach. Swim if the water looks calm, or just relax if it is choppy. You can also check out Jungle Beach if you feel like it. If you want something light, walk around the Rumassala area for a bit.

In the afternoon, take your time. If the sea is right, you can try snorkelling. Later, go back to your hotel and spend the evening unwinding.

Day 05Unawatuna → Mirissa | Beachfront Escape & Sunset Views⌄

After breakfast, leave Unawatuna and head down the south coast to Mirissa. Make a couple of quick stops on the route so you can take pictures or grab a cold drink.

When you reach Mirissa, move into your place to stay and have lunch.

In the afternoon, relax on the beach. Later, go to Coconut Tree Hill to see the coastline from above.

For dinner, eat at a restaurant close to the beach.

Day 06Mirissa | Whale Watching & Ocean Experiences⌄

If you like marine animals, go on an optional whale-watching trip first. This depends on the time of year and how calm the water is. After that, head back to your hotel. Take a break and have lunch whenever you want.

In the afternoon, spend time at Mirissa Beach. You can walk over to Secret Beach too, or just relax under the sun. Later, you have free time in the evening. Eat at local places in town and enjoy the coastal vibe.

Day 07Mirissa → Dondra Head → Hiriketiya | Discovering a Hidden Bay⌄

After you finish breakfast, check out and head east to Hiriketiya. On the drive, pause near Dondra Head. Look at the shoreline and try to spot the lighthouse from a place you can reach. Keep going past Dickwella, then arrive at Hiriketiya. Once you are settled in, use the afternoon to wander around the bay. You can rest near the beach or pop into a nearby café.

Day 08Hiriketiya Bay | Surfing, Beach Cafés & Free Time⌄

Have a slow start and eat a relaxed breakfast. Then go to Hiriketiya Beach. If you want, book a surfing lesson with a local teacher. After that, take a walk by the shore, or just sit in the shade under the palms.

Later on, you can head over to Dickwella Beach. Or you can stay close and enjoy your accommodation for the afternoon.

Wrap up the day with a calm dinner at one of Hiriketiya’s nice little restaurants.

Day 09Hiriketiya → Negombo | Final Coastal Stay⌄

Have breakfast, then check out. Start heading back to Negombo using the Southern Expressway.

Take a break for lunch and drinks along the route. Keep going afterward toward the west coast.

When you reach Negombo, check into your place to stay.

For your last night, unwind near the beach. Have a seafood meal, or get ready for your trip tomorrow.

Day 10Negombo → Bandaranaike International Airport | Departure⌄

Have breakfast at your place before you check out.

If your flight is later, you might get a bit of time to stroll along the beach one last time or do a quick round of shopping.

Your own private tourist driver will take you to Bandaranaike International Airport and will plan the trip so you have enough time for international check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we visit Galle Fort before checking into Unawatuna on Day 03?

Yes. The plan includes a stop at Galle Fort while travelling from Kalutara to Unawatuna. You can explore the lanes and ramparts, take a lunch break, then continue to your overnight stay.

What happens to Day 06 in Mirissa if whale-watching boats cannot depart?

The whale-watching trip is optional and depends on sea conditions and operator availability. You can keep the day for Mirissa Beach, Secret Beach, cafés and coastal leisure instead. Boat tour costs are additional.

Is Day 08 reserved for a surfing lesson or can we relax in Hiriketiya?

The day is flexible. You may request a beginner lesson with a local instructor for an additional cost, visit Dickwella Beach or simply enjoy the bay and your accommodation.

Will we visit Dondra Head on the way from Mirissa to Hiriketiya?

Yes. A short stop near Dondra Head is suggested on Day 07 before continuing past Dickwella to Hiriketiya. Access to individual viewpoints depends on local conditions.

Why does this coastal tour finish with a night in Negombo?

The final overnight in Negombo makes the airport transfer on Day 10 more convenient. You can still enjoy a beachside evening before departure.
