What is the best coastal motorcycle route in Sri Lanka?

The Galle to Weligama to Mirissa to Matara to Tangalle route is a favourite coastal ride in Sri Lanka. You pass seaside towns, small fishing areas, old sites, and open stretches by the Indian Ocean.

Take the A2 road. It links Galle to many popular places on the coast, and you do not need to use any expressway. Many riders start near Galle Fort. From there, you can go through Weligama and Mirissa, then head east toward Matara and on to Tangalle.

Along the way, you get views of the sea in some stretches, but other parts run through towns and quiet neighbourhoods. This trip fits best when you want beach time on the southwest coast in the drier season. In practice, that usually means December through March.

Stay careful at crossings and junctions. Watch out for buses, people on foot, and crowded spots near tourist beaches.
