Can I rent a scooter in Sri Lanka with a car licence?
A normal car driving licence usually does not let tourists ride scooters in Sri Lanka. You need the right motorcycle approval based on the scooter engine size. This is true even if the scooter you rent has an automatic gearbox.
In Sri Lanka, the rules split passenger cars and motorcycles. Category A1 is for motorcycles up to 100cc. Category A is for motorcycles over 100cc, and it also includes A1. Many rental scooters available there run around 110 to 125cc, so the rider typically needs the A category.
Some countries may allow limited scooter riding with a home car licence. However, you should not treat that as valid in Sri Lanka. You should check with the proper local authorities first.
