Can I touch the baby elephants at Elephant Transit Home?

Ravana Tour Specialist October 1, 2026

No. Holding, petting, or touching baby elephants is not allowed at Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home. Please watch the animals only from the approved viewing area. Do not step into the rehabilitation enclosures.

This place is built for expert wildlife care. It is not meant for hands-on tourist interaction. Keeping people away from the calves supports proper rehabilitation conditions. This is especially important for calves that are being readied for later release back into the wild.
