Can I see crocodiles in Udawalawe National Park?

Ravana Tour Specialist October 1, 2026

Yes, crocodiles are found in Udawalawe National Park, mainly near reservoirs, waterholes, and wet areas where suitable habitat exists. Mugger crocodiles are one of the reptiles you can spot inside the park boundaries.

You might see them resting close to the water, or you may notice them partly under the surface. So, it helps to watch slowly and stay alert. How often people see them can change with water height, rainfall, and the safari route taken. Please do not go up to the water’s edge on your own. Do not try to lure or call the crocodiles in any way.
