Can You See Wild Elephants in Minneriya Throughout the Year?

Wild elephants may be in Minneriya at any time of year. Still, the counts go up and down a lot from season to season. The huge groups linked to the Elephant Gathering do not show up every month.

Minneriya is part of a larger space that free-ranging elephants use. It is not a fenced area with animals that stay by the reservoir all year.

In dry periods, water pulls back, and fresh grass appears. Elephants then gather more near Minneriya Tank. After rain arrives, food and water shift. Then the animals can move out into nearby forest and other areas.

So, seeing elephants in Minneriya is one outcome. Watching the well-known Gathering is another.
