What Animals Can I See in Minneriya National Park?
Minneriya supports Sri Lankan elephants and many other animals. You can also find sambar and spotted deer. Wild boar live here too. There are monkeys, mongooses, and porcupines. Crocodiles occur as well, along with a wide range of birds.
Other species are present too, like leopards, sloth bears, and pangolins. Still, they are not easy to spot.
Elephants get the most attention in Minneriya. However, the park also protects a wider mix of habitats. These include dry forest, scrub, grassland, and wetland.
On the way between elephant viewing spots, you might see toque macaques. Purple-faced leaf monkeys may also appear. Deer and reptiles can turn up along travel paths.
Leopards and sloth bears have been recorded in the park. Even so, do not assume you will see them on a short safari. For any wildlife, what you notice depends on natural behaviour, local habitat, and luck.
