Can I bring Sri Lankan currency into the country?

Visitors may bring a maximum of 20,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) into the country. Still, since the rupee is a closed currency, getting good rates outside Sri Lanka is, in practice, pretty much impossible.

In most cases, it is a lot more practical to carry key foreign currencies like US Dollars, Euros, or British Pounds, and then exchange them after arrival at the airport. Sri Lankan ATMs also tend to offer excellent exchange rates right from your home bank account.
