How far is Colombo Airport from Colombo city?

Colombo Airport sits in Katunayake, about 32 to 35 kilometres due north of central Colombo. Usually, the trip takes around 45 to 60 minutes if you are going via the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway (E03), which feels smoother than the older roads.

Before the expressway came along, the same stretch took a lot longer, sometimes much more. When you arrange a taxi, make sure the driver intends to use the expressway first, because there is a small toll fee. That charge is typically placed into your final fare, but honestly, it is pretty worth it for the saved time and the calmer drive.
