How to check if a gemstone certificate is real?

Ravana Tour Specialist August 19, 2026

You can check if a gemstone certificate is real by scanning the QR code on it or by typing the unique report number into the issuing laboratory’s official web verification site. Also, don’t just rely on the paper certificate alone; advanced printing technology makes these documents easier to mimic than people expect, so always verify first.

Labs such as the GIA, GRS, and the Sri Lankan NGJA keep locked down archives that are openly accessible for every stone they evaluate. When you enter the certificate number, the database should show the matching carat weight, proportions, colour category, and the treatment or enhancement status. If the actual stone you have does not match the online dimensions exactly, then that certificate does not go with your gem, and it belongs to another piece.
