Where to spot the Malabar pied hornbill in Sri Lanka?

The large, distinctive Malabar pied hornbill is often seen in the riverine forests and massive trees of Wilpattu National Park, Wasgamuwa National Park, and occasionally Udawalawe.

Easy to recognise by its massive casque-topped yellow beak, plus striking black and white plumage, this bird depends on undisturbed old-growth forests. Its heavy, loud rhythmic wingbeats frequently betray it before it is actually observed gliding between branches.
