What are the standard Sri Lankan plug types?

Sri Lanka mainly uses socket Type D (that three-round-pin setup) and Type G (three rectangular pins, standard UK style) for most everyday use. You will usually see 230V as the mains voltage, with 50Hz as the frequency.

Because the country is still transitioning its infrastructure, you can run into older guesthouses that rely on Type D, while more modern hotels and places that were renovated recently typically switch to UK style Type G. Quite a few Type G sockets in Sri Lanka also include a safety shutter, so if you have only a two-pin European plug, you will not manage to insert it into a Type G socket without an adaptor. It is highly recommended to bring a universal travel adaptor so you do not get stuck anywhere.
