Pidurangala or Sigiriya: Which rock view is better?

Pidurangala is often the better choice overall, because from its summit you get a clear, unobstructed panoramic view and you actually see the iconic Sigiriya Rock fortress itself. Climbing Sigiriya feels like a spectacular historical experience, yet when you stand up there, you cannot view the famous lion rock silhouette.

Choosing Pidurangala is also much cheaper and usually less crowded than its famous neighbour. Photographers keep coming back to Pidurangala for sunrise or sunset images, since the lighting gently reveals Sigiriya in the distance. People who are deeply invested in ancient history and archaeology, though, should still aim for Sigiriya in order to see the ancient frescoes, the mirror wall, and the water gardens.
