Is Pettah Floating Market safe at night?

The Pettah Floating Market is usually safe in the early evening, but then it gets mostly abandoned, and the upkeep is weak later at night, so it becomes a slightly unsafe, not very inviting place for tourists after dark. It is best to go during daylight because in the evening things can turn weird pretty fast.

Originally, the market was built as a lively urban attraction in Colombo; however, it has had trouble with maintenance, and the number of active stalls has stayed low in recent years. After 8:00 pm, the wooden walkways become empty, and the lighting can be uneven, sometimes good, sometimes dim. Rather than taking that chance late at night, visitors who want evening fun will be better off at the lively Galle Face Green or at the more modern complexes in One Galle Face.
