Is Nuwara Eliya freezing cold in December?

Nuwara Eliya is not freezing cold in December, but it does get distinctly chilly, with night-time temperatures frequently dipping to 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F). Frost can sometimes show up in the early morning, but snow is geographically impossible.

Because of its elevation, 1,868 metres (6,128 feet), the climate feels very different from the tropical heat along the coast. December days are usually crisp and cool, hovering near 18°C to 20°C. Visitors should bring warm layers, like a fleece jacket, long trousers, and a light waterproof, particularly since many older colonial-era hotels do not have central heating and depend on electric heaters.
