Galle Face Green is generally pretty safe for night walks, mainly in the early evening when the promenade is filled with families, tourists, and the street food crowd. The place is heavily watched by local police, and the whole area stays well lit, so you feel more relaxed.

As Colombo’s premier oceanfront urban park, it continues to feel lively long after sunset. You can enjoy the street food stalls, for instance, isso vade (prawn fritters), and still catch that cool sea breeze. Still, like any busy public space, a few normal precautions make sense: watch your belongings to avoid opportunistic pickpocketing, and try to avoid the isolated, dim parts near the outer ends of the green late at night.
