How far is Colombo city from BIA?

Colombo City Centre is roughly 32–35 kilometres, which is about 20–22 miles south of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in practice.

The fastest way you can go is via the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway (E03), and this can bring travel down to around 30–45 minutes depending on how busy the core streets are. Using the expressway usually involves a small toll payment. It also avoids the overly jammed Old Negombo Road; that route can otherwise last well over 1.5 hours during busy peak commutes.
