Best month for the Minneriya elephant gathering?

The absolute best months to watch the Minneriya Elephant Gathering are August and September, when the dry season is peaking in the North Central Province.

As the dry season continues, the smaller water sources in the nearby jungles dry up, which pushes as many as 300 wild Asian elephants to converge on the shrinking edges of the Minneriya Tank to drink, bathe, and socialise. While the elephants start arriving in July and remain until October, late August and September tend to deliver the highest density of groups and the most impressive wildlife viewing.
