What is special about Pottuvil Point?

Pottuvil Point is known for putting out one of the longest right-hand rides in Sri Lanka, and when there’s a big swell joining the sections, you can sometimes get rides as long as 800 metres. It sits in a pretty, undeveloped coastal area away from the main tourist hubs, and it feels quieter and more open.

This spot is located just north of Arugam Bay, and it needs a serious south or southeast swell to begin breaking properly. Since it depends on those particular big conditions to function, it stays way less crowded than Main Point. The wave breaks from a rocky outcrop, then it peels predictably over a sand and reef bottom. That’s why it becomes a favourite among intermediate to advanced surfers who want long, carving walls to ride, and stay on them for a while.
