Aedes mosquitoes often slip inside buildings to rest and feed. Air-conditioned rooms are particularly useful at blocking them, because windows and doors stay shut and the colder atmosphere discourages insect activity. If you’re staying in open-air cabanas or eco lodges, do a quick look at the mosquito nets, meaning check for holes or loose seams, and make sure the net can be tucked firmly under the mattress so there are no gaps.
