When is the monsoon if I visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka experiences two distinct monsoon periods. On one side, the southwest monsoon brings down heavy rain on the west, and also the south coast from May through September, while the northeast monsoon kicks in from October to January and mainly hits the east and north.

Because the weather rhythm is split like this, it is possible to plan a bright beach trip any month; you just need to pick the coast that matches the season. If you travel between December and March, then the southern and western shores usually give the friendliest conditions. But if you come during the European summer months of July and August, you can head for the east coast places such as Pasikudah or Arugam Bay, where it tends to be dry, bright, and good for tourism.
