Is Sri Lanka safe to visit right now?
Definitely. Things have stabilised a lot since the economic protests back in 2022. Everything from transport and fuel to everyday essential services is back up and running normally. The tourism industry is fully operational, and locals are really eager to welcome visitors back.
The economic crisis that caused all those supply shortages previously is pretty much sorted out, so you won’t have to worry about your itinerary or travel plans getting disrupted. You might still see the occasional peaceful political demonstration in big cities like Colombo, but they don’t target tourists at all. Just keep an eye on routine government travel advisories and practise normal situational awareness, and you’ll have a great trip.
