Do I need a visa for Sri Lanka?
Yes, in general, most travellers need an Electronic Travel Authorisation, or ETA, to enter Sri Lanka. As of May 2026, citizens from 40 eligible countries, including the UK, USA, Australia, and many EU nations, can get a 30-day double-entry ETA completely free of charge. But you still have to apply, and make sure you actually secure the ETA online via the official government portal before you arrive.
People from the Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore also require an ETA, though it is handled without payment because of bilateral reciprocity agreements.
