Should I pay for my driver’s meals?
You aren’t strictly required to, since their daily wage or tour package usually covers their basic food and lodging. However, offering to grab them lunch or a quick snack is a super common and highly appreciated gesture.
Interestingly, a lot of the tourist-focused restaurants along the main routes actually give drivers a free or heavily discounted meal when they bring clients in. But if you decide to eat somewhere local and off-the-beaten-path that doesn’t have facilities for drivers, offering to pay for their meal is a really kind way to build a good rapport. It’s always a smart idea to clarify meal inclusions with your tour operator beforehand so there’s no confusion.
