Is aggressive haggling common in Sri Lankan fruit markets?

Aggressive, high-pressure haggling isn’t really a normal cultural practice in the local Sri Lankan fruit and vegetable markets. While it is fine to ask for a little discount on a bigger bulk buy, most vendors still keep things steady with fair, standardised prices for everyone.

If a cost feels unusually steep for a plain item like bananas or king coconuts, it is better to just smile, refuse politely, and head to the next stall. Building a warm, respectful relationship usually helps more than pushing for a bigger reduction.
