Are there reef sharks at Pigeon Island?

Yes, Pigeon Island National Park is well known for its growing number of Blacktip reef sharks, and you can usually spot them in the shallow waters near the coral reef.

They typically reach about 1 to 1.5 metres long. In most cases, these sharks are harmless, and they act a bit timid when snorkellers are around. The island is still among the top places in Sri Lanka for safe and very close marine sightings, together with sea turtles and a wide range of coral species.
